Music movies based on prince & Pharrell in development at universal

Over the weekend, Universal announced pre-production on two films based on the lives of both pharrell williams and prince.

The hollywood reporter reports that ryan coogler is producing a prince jukebox musical movie, in the vein of mamma mia, etc. There is no cast, release date, director or writer attached yet.

Moving in closer to production is universal's new film loosely based on the life of pharrell williams. Directed by michel gondry (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind). Deadline reports that kelvin harrison jr. and newly minted oscar winner da'vine joy randolph will star in the film. no release date is set yet.
